The first European main event in the Asian Poker Tour featuring a buy-in worth ₤545 took place at London’s Fox Poker Club. The event, which had a field of 125 players, spanned over two days. A few of the best players in the world of live poker tournaments took to the felt. Barny Boatman, Priyan de Mel and Steve Watts were among them. The winner of the event was William Dorey, a 25 year old who bagged the title of the APT London Champion and ₤17,130.

The second day of the event saw 37 players. A few hours later, just nine remained.. They went on to make the official final table of the event. They were Tolga Kuru, Alex Van de Weyer, An-Tuan Hoan, Duncan Mackie, Steve Watts, Surinder Sunar, Stefan Wittmoss and Mark Karoullas besides Dorey.

After Watts was eliminated in third place, Karoullas and Dorey entered the heads-up play. The two played a tough game for about twenty minutes. After that, they made a move that brought them close to each other in chip count. While one held £13,500, the other had £17,130. With A-6, Dorey sent his opponent who had A-8 to the rail. The board helped when it showed Q-6-Q-4-9.

Julian Thew Wins Sky Poker Tour 2011-2012 Luton Leg

Another player to have made an impression at the felt is Team Sky Poker’s Julian Thew. He has been landing a lot of victories in live poker tours. One of the most recent was in the Luton leg of the Sky Poker Tour of 2011-2012. He played against a field of nearly 200 to secure the first place and the ₤11,200 prize.

The night before this event, the tour held a side event with a ₤100 buy-in, in which Thew was the runner up. Most of the players who entered the main event had qualified through the poker room Sky Poker. The smallest buy-ins for the online qualifiers was ₤5. One of the skilled players bested by Thew was Shaun Cook. They were in heads-up play when he played a two pair on a board with ace-high. Cook’s hand, which had an A-J, was outdrawn by Thew’s.

The next two Sky Poker events scheduled to take place are in Brighton and Glasgow. Qualifiers to these events are set to take place on the poker site in the coming few days.
