The holiday season was celebrated by the online poker community in a festive manner last year. Poker players came together for a cause. They participated in the 2nd Annual Phil Hellmuth’s Hold’em event held with aim of raising funds for patients of Agrace HospiceCare. The charity event consisted of a silent auction, raffle and online poker tournaments.

Agrace HospiceCare is a non-profit organization which specializes in providing spiritual and emotional guidance to patients who have physical limitations.

Event Visited by Eminent Poker Professionals

The 2nd Annual Phil Hellmuth’s Hold’em was visited by eminent poker professionals. A total of 250 players took part in the events including well-known poker pros like Annette Obrestad. She had been the champion of the World Series Poker Europe (WSOPE) in 2007. In addition, the field also had the 4th place finisher of 1998 WSOP, Dewey Weum. Other well-known poker pros who participated in the 2nd Annual Phil Hellmuth’s Hold’em event were Mark Kroon and Anthony Nardi. Kroon was the defending champion of the poker event.

Local Celebrities Played in the Event

In addition to well-known personalities from the world of poker, quite a few local celebrities participated in the 2nd Annual Phil Hellmuth’s Hold’em event. Famous golfer, Jerry Kelly; football player of UW Badgers and NFL, Derek Engler; and the coach of the women’s hockey team of UW Badger’s, Mark Johnson are few of the local celebrities who were a part of the event.

The guest list was impressive and so was the venue at which the event was held. Wisconsin Institute of Discovery in Madison hosted the event. The place is widely known for its state-of-the-art architecture. The entire poker community showed great enthusiasm in doing their share for the charity initiative. In addition to players, there were also tournament dealers, attendants and tournament directors, some of whom were volunteers.

The tournament was fun-filled. The event saw Hellmuth’s father and sister playing at the felt. Paul Soglin, Madison’s mayor, was also a part of the competition.

Laura Schultz won the Tournament

The final table of the 2nd Annual Phil Hellmuth’s Hold’em event included quite a few big names like John Orr, a well-known businessman of Wisconsin, John Green and Morgan Machina. Laura Schultz walked away with the winning prize. Orr made a 10th place finish.
