After a break of about three years, PokerRoom.com is back. The site has been a popular gaming destination for online poker enthusiasts. There were rumors in the industry last month that PokerRoom.com will open once again for real money poker players. Bwin Party Digital owns the site. The idea of re-opening the website was initiated by Bwin’s employees. It is a Stockholm based gambling firm. This is one of its many strategic steps to enhance its brand value. Prior to this, Bwin partnered with Party Gaming.

PokerRoom.com was Shut Down following Ongame Network’s Exit

PokerRoom.com was launched in the year 1999. The site became extremely popular among real money players. Poker enthusiasts visited the Ongame Network of poker rooms to access the site. With the introduction of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in the year 2006, Ongame Network had to exit the US online gambling market. PokerRoom.com was badly affected due to the exit of Ongame Network and was shut down in 2009.

Following its shut down, PokerRoom.com transferred its customer base to Bwin. In an announcement made by PokerRoom.com, it stated that after spending ten glorious years in the online poker community, the site had to make an exit. The shut down of the site came as a shock to many. Some of the biggest online poker real money tournaments were held by the poker site. Players made a lot of money on PokerRoom.com’s platform.

Ongame Poker Network to be sold by Bwin

Bwin has ample reasons to reopen Pokerroom.com now. Bwin.party Digital plans to enter the US market for online gambling. The company has signed a partnership deal with MGM and Boyd Gaming. Opening PokerRoom.com is a part of the expansion plan of Bwin. New player base is expected to be created with the reopening of Pokerroom.com.

Ongame Network is currently up for sale. Bwin aims at enhancing its value by re-opening PokerRoom.com which once held a strong reputation in the industry. The newly opened Pokerroom.com features a note to its players. It states that the site is proud to declare that it is back in the internet poker world. PokerRoom.com is open to real money poker players of all categories. All new and existing players in the online poker community have been invited by the site to take part in the poker tables of PokerRoom.com.
