Joe Hachem and Shane Warne Charity Poker Tournament was held on January 15th this year. The event is organized every year by the two prominent Australian personalities after whom it has been named. The key aim behind organizing the event was to raise money for a non-profit organization, The Shane Warne Foundation run by Shane Warne, a former player of the Australian cricket team.
Studio 3 hosted the Shane Warne Charity Poker Tournament this Year
The tournament was hosted by Studio 3. It is the Aussie Millions’ official film studio. The event was visited by poker pros and celebrities from across the world. The celebrity guest list included names like Dermott Brereton, Jimmy Bartel, Jason Akermanis, Brendon Goddard, Gary Ablett Jr, Leigh Montagna and Luke Hodge. Dermott Brereton, a well-known AFL media personality and Fifi Box, a television star were also at the event.
Some of the professional poker players who participated in the event were Annette Obrestad, Marvin Rettenmaier, Marsha Waggoner, Clonie Gowen, Maria Ho, Tiffany Michelle, Daniel Cates, Robert Williamson II, Tony Hachem, Patrik Antonius and Tony G.
Attractive Prizes offered in the Tournament
Poker players and celebrities from different fields competed for an attractive range of prizes on offer. The winner of the charity event was provided with a high roller package for the 2012 WSOP. The package included an entry to the Main Event of WSOP 2012, free accommodation and airfare. In addition, the winner also received Tissot PRS516 watch and a cricket ball signed by Shane Warne. The first and second runners up were rewarded with a seat to the Aussie Millions Main Event. Various other prizes were up for grabs for the top 15 finishers. One of these included satellite entry at 888 Poker and the Aussie Millions.
Tournament Atmosphere was Jovial
The tournament atmosphere was quite jovial. Players seemed to be having a lot of fun. The Main Event champion of Aussie Millions, David Gorr stated that very interestingly the player was the oldest participant in the tournament.
Warne made an 8th place finish in the tournament. He was eliminated by Kris McKenzie. Hachem took the revenge for Warne. McKenzie was eliminated at the 4th place by Hachem. Unfortunately, Hachem was knocked out right after McKenzie. Hachem made a 3rd place finish. The tournament was won by McGregor.
